Woman in the Mining Industry
With a clear sense of urgency at the low numbers of women working in mining, creating an inclusive workplace that can both attract and retain female employees is a pressing priority for the Canadian economy.
Creating inclusive workplaces
A 2010 report from Women in Mining in Canada – a non-profit organization aimed at promoting the advancement of women in resource extraction and exploration – revealed that at the time of the report’s release, women only represented 14% of those employed in the Canadian mining industry.
In simple terms, this is the lowest representation of women in a Canadian primary industry category; the wage gap between men and women in mining and exploration is also well above the national average.
